While traveling abroad

  • Stay in touch:
    • Internet cafes are very popular outside the United State for a very reasonable price you can get access to high speed internet and e-mail.
    • Mobile phones are also popular, however, you need to make sure that you don’t sign up for a long term plan with a contract; there are usually many prepaid minutes cards venders.
    • Text messaging could be a good way to communicate with your local doctor there, SMS is very common abroad and is an easy way to communicate quick information without bothering during off hours if no need to.

  • Don’t carry a lot of cash on you, it is not recommended everywhere, keep as much as you think you may need when going out. Most hotels and hospitals offer safety deposit boxes. Ask for them and use them.

  • Try to use your credit cards and checks if acceptable. Check with your health travel agent before you go.

  • Make sure you have a travel guide book such as “Lonely Planet” guide; this will make it much easier to get acclimated with the foreign culture and places during your visit. Maps also always useful.

  • Transportation:
    • Make sure there a taxi authorized sign on the car before you rid in a cab
    • It is recommended that you have transportation arranged at the destination country when you get to & from the airport

  • Food
    • Most hospitals and hotels offer very good healthy meals for you and your companion.
    • Try to avoid buying from street vendors
    • Make sure you stick to the doctors’ recommendations on your diet as well.
    • Always drink bottled water, make sure it is new and never opened before.
    • Your post procedure discipline is part of the treatment and fast recovery.
    • The US Center of Disease control estimates a 100,000 of us patients die every year from hospital acquired infections.
    • Infection rates in almost all accredited hospitals abroad are lower than those in the United States
